Festa Junina - Junine Party

June is a special time here in Brazil, we celebrate a party called 'Festa Junina'. Actually three of catholic saints are celebrated in specific days, so people celebrate it in a traditional party all over Brazil. The most common dance is 'quadrilha', based on the quadrille dance from european parties. People wear costumes to look like 'caipira' - people from the countryside. It's really fun! Take a look in the pictures below:

Junho é uma época especial aqui no Brazil, nós celebramos a Festa Junina. Na verdade três santos católicos são homenageados e as pessoas aproveitam para realizarem festas, também chamadas de quadrilhas. A dança mais comum é a quadrilha, baseada nas antigas danças de salão européias, chamadas de 'quadrille'. As pessoas vestem fantasias para ficarem parecidos com 'caipiras'. Realmente é uma festa muito divertida! Veja as fotos abaixo:

A lot of people enjoying a saturday afternoon!

  3. Well done! It seems really fun and the photos are quite professional.

Did you know that in the UK, every now and then, in small towns, there is what they call "barn dances". There usually is live music and it is also great fun even if you don´t know the steps - or specially if you don´t know the steps! Whenever I see people dancing the quadrille, it reminds me of the English barn dances.

You can see a barn dance in this video link:

  5. That looks fascinating! It certainly looks as if a good time was had by all :) Janaina is right- Barn Dances are held in British towns and village, usually as fund raisers, though I've been to one birthday party where that was the main entertainment.

    Best wishes

  6. This is terrific Adriana! - everyone so beautiful and in all the colors of the rainbow!

In the States, when I was growing up we celebrated May Day on the first of May with dacning around a "May Pole" and wearing white dresses and flowers in our hair - this was a common holiday in England as well - now I do not see or hear anything of if anymore - does anyone know what happened to May Day??

Thank you Adriana for sharing this with us! - nothing better for young people than to celebrate the seasons and nature!

    Best,
    Deb
